HELIX

Palermo, 2018

Within the concept of Manifesta 12, “The Planetary Garden. Cultivating Coexistence,” HELIX derives from a deep gaze into our most basic substance.  We share 29% of our DNA with a banana, 15% with mustard grass, 85% with a zebra fish, 75% with rats, much with coral, and of course 99.9% with any human being.

At a level of looking profoundly into organic material, a connectivity of imagery emerged, a thread of curious, disconcerting beauty in the tracing of who and of what we are composed.

Animal, vegetal, mineral, HELIX nudges perspective to the limit, past borders or boundaries. Particularly here in a museum of frightening/inviting puppets of all races, genders, imaginations — dangling, watching.

The piece was developed with the scientific team of the Louvre.
